The development of geochemistry in the GDR after the Second World War, traced from its historical sources and the economic and political constraints and driving forces of the period. In close connection with mineralogy and petrology, a school of geochemical thinking emerged that served the search for and assessment of mineral resources as well as fundamental questions of Earth and environmental history.
